Introduction:

Following last year's successful security B-Sides event in Cape Town, we will be attempting to better on the "un-conference" this year.

Pieter Blaauw, last years organizator has chosen to follow the greener pastures in Johannesburg and thus I have picked up the proverbial torch.

We have had quite some interest from sponsors and will be confirming the details as the time gets closer.

The goal of BSides Cape Town is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines and create the opportunity for

the Cape Town Information Security community to participate and collaborate in the growth of our local industry.

Call For Papers:

BSides Cape Town will be held on the 1st of December 2012 and will cater for 45 minute, 25 minute and 10 minute lightning talks..

Full talks are for a 35-45 minutes in length dealing with almost anything of an Information Security or "hacking" nature.

We love to see brand new speakers, seasoned speakers and everyone in between!

For both talk types, pretty much anything relating to Infosec will be considered, however the following are some ideas that was listed for last year's talks.

  • Human aspects
    • Social engineering
    • Security education
    • Training programmes
    • Awareness
  • Techical / Pentest
    • Tools (new and old)
    • Techniques, approaches
    • Lessons Learned
  • Exploits and Defense
    • New vulnerabilities
    • Interesting and Novel defenses
  • Forensics
    • Intrusion and Incident Response
    • Network Forensics
  • Off the wall stuff

    • re-purposing other hardware
    • Lockpicking (yes we even want to see this!)
  • Industry Security
    • How does your security work?
    • Business impact security

What we are looking for is to get people up and talking about the interesting work they are doing, meet other like minded folk and get some value out of the day.

This is not a marketing conference, but anyone may submit a talk and will be selected on merit.  If you are not sure about your topic, talk to us! In keeping

with the overall SecurityBSides ethic, BSides Cape Town will consider submissions on any information security subject from everyone in the community.

Talk proposals should consist of a 3-500 word abstract sent to bsidescapetown@gmail.com by the 31st of October 2012  15 November 2012.

Please include some of the following information:
