FAQ

Ask a Question / Answer a Question

That's right!  Since this is a Wiki, if you have a question just post it below and shortly thereafter someone will answer it.  If you want them to respond directly to you then leave your contact information.

If you would rather contact someone directly you can email: info (at) securitybsides dot org

  • Question: How do I edit the Wiki? How do I create an account?
  • Answer: To edit the page you first need an account. Only Event organizers need accounts to edit the wiki.
    • To create an account, click the "Create an account" link in the upper right of the page under Anonymous
    • If you have an account simply click the "Log In" button on the upper right of any page.
    • Once you have logged in click the "Edit" tab on the upper left of the page.

  • Question: Attendee vs Participant: What's the difference?
  • Answer: Barcamps & BSides events are for participants only; there are no wallflowers here!  In fact you must participate either by asking good questions, presenting on a topic, collaborating with others, meeting new friends, or helping out in your own special way.  We want to make events that benefit everyone through participation.

  • Question: Are all BSides events the same?
  • Answer: Nope.  Check out the WhatToExpect.  There are two different style events: Structured Day & Fluid Day.  The three anchor events, such as BSidesLasVegas, are examples of the Structured Day, whereas the regional events, such as BSidesBay, are often examples of the Fluid Day.

In addition, each event is organized with different presenters, different audience, and a different vibe.  Try all the flavors!

  • Question: I'm a member of the media, do I need press credentials?
  • Answer: It varies by event, check the specific event pages for details.

  • Question: Will the videos of the talks be available online after the event?

  • Answer: It depends on the resources of the given event. Many BSides events record the talks and stream them live, often using a service such as UStream. Typically if this is done, the talks will be made available after the event, either through the UStream archive, or via some other mechanism the organizers of the event utilize.
