BSides hosting points

We will host the first BSides event in Las Vegas in July 2009. This is a continually changing feedback loop of lessons learned from these events.

• When calculating the cost, consider the following:
  • Get a location first
  • Identify speakers (if structured)
  • Identify sponsors
  • Market it through your friends, speakers, and sponsors

• If your office is carpeted, plan on steam cleaning the carpet after the event.

   

• Plan not to have messy foods such as popcorn.

• Work early to make sure that the vendors and caterers meet the insurance requirements for your building (if any).

• Do not try to do a sponsor speech or pitch. If you are hosting, everyone knows who you are.
